NM State clinched a series sweep over Delaware with a 7-2 victory on Apr. 4 at Presley Askew Field at Johnson Stadium. The Aggies improved to a .500 record in Conference USA play after pulling away with a four-run seventh inning.
The game began with Delaware taking an early lead, scoring single runs in the second and third innings. NM State responded in the bottom of the third when Brandon Clizbe tripled and later scored on Camden Kaufman’s sacrifice fly, narrowing the gap to one run.
In the fourth inning, NM State loaded the bases and tied the game as Clizbe drew a walk that forced home Easton Rulli. The Aggies took their first lead in the fifth when Aidan Taclas scored on a balk. The decisive moment came in the seventh inning: Kaufman doubled, then Steve Solorzano hit a two-run home run down the left-field line. Boston Vest added his third sacrifice fly of the weekend, and Rulli scored on a wild pitch to extend NM State’s lead.
Pitcher Jack Turner earned his win by pitching five innings and allowing only two runs while striking out four batters. Jake Carvajal and Dylan Weekly followed up with scoreless relief appearances to close out the game for NM State.
Taclas led offensively for NM State with three hits, while Solorzano contributed two RBIs from his seventh-inning homer and Kaufman collected two hits along with an RBI.
With this result, NM State matched its highest run output against a Conference USA opponent since joining the league in 2024. The team has now won seven of its last eight games at home.
