Rep. Gabe Vasquez, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing New Mexico’s 2nd district, recently shared several updates on his initiatives via social media. Born in El Paso, Texas, Vasquez has been a representative since 2023 and resides in Las Cruces.

On May 11, 2025, Vasquez announced “nearly $750,000 headed to Silver City, Santa Teresa, and Grants to improve their local airports and boost safety, infrastructure, and economic growth in our region.” He emphasized that investing in rural infrastructure is synonymous with investing in the future.

Later that day on May 11th, he reflected on public lands’ significance through a tweet stating “Our public lands are part of our identity—they connect us to our history, our culture, and to each other.” He highlighted the role of the Bipartisan Public Lands Caucus in protecting these areas through collaboration and action.

On May 12th, Vasquez introduced new legislation aimed at enhancing wildfire response capabilities. In his words: “I recently introduced the bipartisan Aerial Firefighting Enhancement Act to bolster our wildfire response capabilities.” This initiative seeks to equip firefighters with essential tools amid rising fire threats.
