U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez, who serves New Mexico’s 2nd district in Congress, has recently highlighted several local initiatives and concerns through his social media posts.

On August 12, 2025, Vasquez praised the revitalization of a historic cultural venue, stating, “The arts are back at the Cavern Theatre thanks to the City of Carlsbad and Carlsbad MainStreet! Protecting and preserving historical cultural centers like this one boosts our local economy, increases tourism, and creates a space for learning for all.”

Later that day, Vasquez addressed economic development in the region by referencing a visit to an important energy facility: “Our district is home to Urenco USA, the only large-scale commercial uranium facility in North America. I visited the facility to see how New Mexican companies are continuing to innovate to meet the nation’s energy needs — all while creating good-paying jobs here in our community.” (August 12, 2025).

On August 13, 2025, Vasquez turned attention to housing affordability issues affecting residents of Alamogordo. He wrote: “Every family in New Mexico deserves an affordable, safe space to call home. But right now, predatory pricing is pushing vulnerable community members out of their homes. To the community in Alamogordo, I heard you, and I got to work: I’m proud to introduce the Keep Mobile Homes”.

Vasquez began serving as U.S. Representative after defeating Yvette Herrell in the 2024 general election with just over 52% of the vote. He succeeded Herrell in January 2023 after winning New Mexico’s closely watched congressional race.
