Rep. Gabe Vasquez, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing New Mexico’s 2nd district, has taken to social media to discuss recent initiatives related to public lands. Born in El Paso, Texas, and residing in Las Cruces, Vasquez has been active in promoting conservation efforts since replacing Yvette Herrell in 2023.
On May 7, 2025, Vasquez shared on Twitter his engagement with @carolinegleich regarding the launch of his new Public Lands Caucus. He invited followers to “check it out here”.
Later that day, he announced the formation of the first-ever bipartisan Public Lands Caucus. Emphasizing his personal connection to New Mexico’s natural landscapes through activities like fishing, Vasquez expressed pride in leading this initiative alongside Representative Ryan Zinke. He highlighted the effort as a means to bring together both sides of the political aisle: “Today, I announced the first-ever bipartisan Public Lands Caucus…”
On May 8, 2025, Vasquez continued his advocacy for public lands by underscoring their unique value as an American experience that requires ongoing protection and vigilance: “Public lands and public access to our forests…”
Vasquez graduated from New Mexico State University in 2008 with a BA and is actively involved in legislative efforts concerning environmental conservation.
