The City of Las Cruces announced on Apr. 13 that its Water Conservation Program will host a series of free workshops this spring to promote water-wise landscaping, irrigation, and gardening. The sessions are scheduled at the Las Cruces City Hall Council Chambers on Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with upcoming dates including April 16 and 23, as well as May 7, 14, and 21. Presentations will also be available via Zoom.
The initiative aims to help residents use limited water resources efficiently by creating sustainable landscapes and gardens. This effort is part of broader community engagement provided by Las Cruces through programs for youth, seniors, and recreation, according to the official website.
In addition to the Lush and Lean workshops, the city has ongoing projects such as seeking a Master Developer for redevelopment of city-owned land in the East area. The Sustainability program offers support for low-income homeowners looking to improve home energy efficiency at little or no cost. Qualifying residents may receive a free energy audit along with upgrades.
Las Cruces manages infrastructure through departments handling utilities and public works according to its official website. The city delivers local governance, services, infrastructure management, regulation enforcement, and community programs throughout its municipal boundaries in New Mexico serving both residents and businesses.
The municipal government operates under a council-manager structure with City Manager Ikani Taumoepeau appointed by the city council as reported by the city’s official site. This structure allows Las Cruces to function as a home-rule municipality focused on meeting local needs.
Broader efforts such as these workshops reflect an ongoing commitment by Las Cruces officials toward sustainability initiatives that benefit both individuals and neighborhoods across the community.
