The OIR Group, an independent firm contracted by the City of Las Cruces in 2021 to audit the police department, will hold a community outreach meeting on September 8. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, located at 700 N Main St., and is expected to last about two hours.
According to city officials, the meeting aims to give residents an opportunity to engage with representatives from the OIR Group and learn more about its role and services. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and share their experiences or concerns regarding policing in Las Cruces.
Earlier that day, the OIR Group will present its eighth semi-annual report during a City Council work session beginning at 1 p.m., also in City Council Chambers. The group reviews Internal Affairs investigations conducted by the Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) into alleged misconduct and provides feedback on the accuracy of those findings. The firm’s findings and recommendations are presented to City Council twice each year.
“The community outreach meeting will serve as an opportunity for residents to connect with representatives from the OIR Group and gain insight into the purpose, function and types of services provided by the OIR Group.”
“Participants are encouraged to ask questions of the police auditors in an open forum and share experiences, information or concerns to help the OIR Group get a pulse on policing in our community.”
