The Las Cruces Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a one-hour enforcement operation along El Paseo Road on Thursday, August 14, 2025. During the operation, officers issued a total of 37 traffic citations.

Of these citations, 13 were for speeding and 11 were for operating a vehicle without proper registration. Additional violations included three citations for failure to provide proof of insurance, three for driving without a license, two for using a cell phone while driving, and five for other miscellaneous traffic infractions.

The enforcement activity began at approximately 8:15 a.m. According to the department, similar operations are expected in the coming weeks.

The City of Las Cruces is also involved in various community initiatives. The city is collaborating with New Mexico State University and State Representative Angelica Rubio on Ruedas Unidas/Wheels United, an open streets event aimed at engaging residents. Efforts are underway to gather public input on future improvements to Young Park through a master planning process that seeks community participation.

Las Cruces Utilities is currently developing long-term plans regarding natural gas use in homes and businesses across the city. Additionally, local fourth-grade students recently participated in educational activities about water conservation at Young Park as part of ongoing outreach programs.

City services will experience temporary changes; specifically, the Cashiering Program will close from noon to 2 p.m. on June 26, 2025, due to staff training and meetings. The New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department will introduce updated location codes for business tax filings starting July 1, 2025 (https://www.tax.newmexico.gov/). The Parks and Recreation Department continues its free outdoor movie series at Main Street (https://www.lascruces.gov/Calendar.aspx?EID=17842).

Plans are also being developed by the City of Las Cruces to revitalize neighborhoods around El Paseo and S Solano corridors between Lohman and University Avenues (https://www.lascruces.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=14698). Residents are encouraged to participate in these planning efforts.

April has been designated Safe Digging Month as part of efforts to remind residents about safe excavation practices by calling 811 before digging (https://call811.com/).
