The Las Cruces Public Libraries are facing disruptions in their book supply following the bankruptcy announcement of their primary distributor, Baker and Taylor, on October 7, 2025. The company is expected to close its operations by January 2026.

Due to this development, the library system is seeking new vendors to provide materials. During this transition period, staff will use alternative purchasing methods, but a consistent flow of new books and other items will not resume until a replacement vendor is found. Patrons may experience longer wait times for requested materials.

“Library staff were surprised that Baker and Taylor announced they would be shutting their doors in January 2026,” said Library Deputy Director Sarah Booth. “Library staff is committed to ensuring our patrons get new and replacement items during this transition period. We understand how frustrating this may be and are working diligently to find a new vendor.”

For further information, residents can contact Sarah Booth, Library Deputy Director at (575) 528-4017/TTY 711 or by email at [email protected]
