Las Cruces Public Schools (LCPS) has issued a correction to previously shared information regarding its meal distribution program. The district updated dates, times, and locations for upcoming food distributions after community members and partners identified inaccuracies in an earlier release.
“We deeply appreciate the community’s continued support and commitment to ensuring families receive the resources they need,” LCPS stated.
The district reaffirmed its goal of preventing child hunger and emphasized collaboration with organizations such as Roadrunner Food Bank, Casa de Peregrinos, Brighter Bites, and local businesses. These partnerships aim to provide free meals to both LCPS families and other community members during the holiday season.
“This effort continues the work our schools and departments already do to support families, with an emphasis that these services are also available to children regardless of whether they attend school in the district,” according to LCPS. “We encourage the community to come out and receive meal kits at any of our pop-up drive-thru meal distribution sites.”
The Bilingual Community Outreach team at LCPS works with Roadrunner Food Bank to host monthly drive-thru food distributions on the first Thursday of each month at the LCPS Family Support Center, located at 505 S. Main St., Suite 249. Up to two households per vehicle can be served on a first-come, first-served basis, benefiting up to 75 families per event. No registration is required.
Additional drive-thru meal distributions by Roadrunner Food Bank will take place on November 8 at Mesilla Valley Mall (700 S Telshor Blvd.) starting at 11:00 a.m., and on November 13 from 8:30 a.m. until supplies last at Field of Dreams (2501 Tashiro Dr.).
In December, Nutrition Services will distribute meal kits for children ages 1–18 beginning at 5:30 p.m. on December 17 at the Nutrition Services Warehouse (2101 Tashiro Dr.). Children must be present in vehicles during pickup; eligible recipients will receive two kits containing five breakfasts and five lunches each.
LCPS clarified that these services are open not only to students but also all children in the area, as well as other community members through additional food bank locations.
“We stand by our commitment that no child should ever go hungry,” said LCPS.
