New Mexico State University’s College of Engineering will host a book signing event with alumna Sylvia Acevedo on Monday, November 3. The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the NMSU Bookstore in Las Cruces.

Acevedo will sign copies of her second book, “The Trailblazer’s Playbook: Practical Tactics to Rise Against the Odds and Achieve Excellence,” which was published in September. Her earlier memoir, “Path to the Stars: My Journey from Girl Scout to Rocket Scientist,” recounts her journey from growing up in Las Cruces to working at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Acevedo holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from NMSU.

She has held executive positions at several technology companies, including Apple, Autodesk, Dell, and IBM. Acevedo also served as CEO of the Girl Scouts of the USA for four years, where she led an expansion that introduced 146 new badges and programs focused on STEM, outdoor activities, entrepreneurship, and civics.

“We’re proud to welcome Sylvia Acevedo back to NMSU,” said College of Engineering interim Dean David Jauregui. “Her achievements as an engineer, executive and advocate for STEM education continue to inspire our students. She truly represents the innovation and determination that define Aggie engineers.”

Currently, Acevedo works as a public speaker specializing in leadership topics and serves as a board director for Qualcomm and lead independent board director at Credo Technologies. She earned her master’s degree in engineering from Stanford University and has received honorary doctorates from Saint Mary’s College, Duke University, and Washington College.
