Satyajayant “Jay” Misra, associate dean of research in the New Mexico State University College of Engineering, has been appointed Technical Program Committee co-chair for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) International Conference on Computer Communications 2026. This conference is recognized as a leading event in computer networking and communications.

Misra will share this role with Professor Tian Lan from George Washington University. The IEEE INFOCOM conference brings together researchers, industry experts, and academics from around the world to discuss advances in computer communications. The 2026 event is scheduled for May 18-21 in Tokyo, Japan, and will include keynote speeches, technical paper presentations, panels, workshops, tutorials, poster sessions and programming for students.

“INFOCOM continues to be one of the selective conferences for which networking and cybersecurity researchers work for a year or more to submit a high-quality paper to,” Misra said. “When I was a student, it was my dream to get a paper into INFOCOM any given year. It continues to be a high-impact venue. INFOCOM 2026 will bring researchers from all continents to spend four days in Tokyo, presenting and discussing cutting-edge research ideas.”

As Technical Program Committee co-chair, Misra oversees the peer-review process carried out by over 400 researchers worldwide. He is responsible for building the technical program and ensuring the quality of research presented at the conference.

This appointment is considered a significant recognition within the field. Misra joins others who have served in similar roles at IEEE INFOCOM after making substantial contributions to networking research.

“Dr. Misra’s appointment as Technical Program Committee co-chair of IEEE INFOCOM 2026 is a significant achievement,” said David Jáuregui, interim dean of the NMSU College of Engineering. “Serving in this role places NMSU alongside leading research institutions from around the world, underscoring the growing international visibility of our research efforts. It reflects not only Dr. Misra’s sustained scholarly leadership, but also NMSU’s expanding contributions to advancing research in computer science, engineering and emerging technologies on the global stage.”

For INFOCOM 2026, nearly 1,800 papers were submitted globally with about 330 accepted for presentation—a demonstration of both high interest and rigorous standards.

“This year we had an increase of more than 20 percent in submitted papers, and this shows the growing interest in INFOCOM,” Misra said. “The paper selection process is multi-level with significant oversight by seasoned researchers in the community, and it is rigorous and selective. The selection process lasts over five months, involving several rounds of anonymous interactions among reviewers for each paper, culminating in a technical program committee meeting where borderline papers are adjudicated. We, the TPC co-chairs, made the final adjudication. This is a time-intensive endeavor, with TPC members spending many hours reviewing the papers and making decisions. I am thankful as a TPC chair for the service.”

New Mexico State University (NMSU) serves New Mexico’s diverse communities through education initiatives as well as outreach programs across its statewide campuses official website.
