Representative Rebecca Dow, a Republican serving New Mexico’s 38th House district since 2025, posted a series of statements on her social media account on September 8, 2025. The posts addressed issues concerning parental rights in healthcare decisions, educational strategies in public schools, and the allocation of taxpayer funds for child care.
In one post from the morning of September 8, Dow expressed concerns about progressive policies and parental authority: “Inappropriate.
1. Parents know their children best and should remain in charge of their child’s healthcare until adulthood.
2. When progressives bend over backwards to make trial lawyers millionaires remove liabilities
– look closely.
3. In this case, they are making https://t.co/vmLkWfanqE”.
Later that day, Dow addressed New Mexico public school districts regarding educational interventions: “Dear NM public school districts, you don’t need a legislative mandate to implement most evidence based strategies. You can offer tutoring now. You can inform and engage parents now. You can suggest a child who can’t read by third grade be retained at the parent’s request now.”
In another post that afternoon, she criticized Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s recent announcement about funding for childcare vouchers: “How we spend taxpayer dollars matters. Today MLG announced she will spend millions of dollars giving the rich child care vouchers to pay for their in-home nanny. Meanwhile, the children who need the most help continue to be left alone, continue to be abused, and are even dying.”
Dow was elected to represent New Mexico’s 38th House district in 2025 after succeeding Tara Jaramillo.
