Rep. Gabe Vasquez, who represents New Mexico’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed several issues on his social media account, including national injustice, environmental protection, and congressional ethics.
On January 19, 2026, Vasquez referenced Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy while commenting on current events: “As we witness increasing violence and injustice across our nation, I’m reminded of Dr. King’s words this MLK Day: ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’ That truth lives here at home today. In moments like this, when our families feel threatened on their own”.
Later that day, he voiced concerns about proposed mining operations in a well-known wilderness area: “The Boundary Waters are an irreplaceable Wilderness Area that represent the best of America’s public lands. Opening them to foreign-owned open-pit copper-sulfide mines is wrong. I urge my colleagues to vote NO.”
On January 20, 2026, Vasquez commented on congressional stock trading practices: “I didn’t come to Congress to get rich, I don’t own stocks, and I don’t think any member of Congress should trade stocks while they’re here.”
Vasquez began serving in Congress in 2023 after defeating Yvette Herrell in the 2024 general election with 52.1% of the vote. He succeeded Herrell as representative for New Mexico’s 2nd district.
