Rep. Gabe Vasquez, U.S. Congressman representing New Mexico’s 2nd district since 2023, shared updates on his recent activities and initiatives in a series of tweets posted between July 15 and July 16, 2025.

On July 15, Vasquez highlighted the importance of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to his constituents: “Farmers, ranchers, food banks, and wildfire crews in my district depend on a functioning USDA — not just for support, but for their survival. Last month, I secured a commitment from @SecRollins to visit Southern New Mexico and see firsthand the everyday impacts of USDA funding” (July 15, 2025).

Later that day, he commented on reports following a site visit by Florida lawmakers: “Last weekend Florida lawmakers got a chance to visit Alligator Alcatraz, and the reports that came from that visit were shocking. We can’t stand for this as a country — this is not who we are.” (July 15, 2025).

The next day, Vasquez announced internship opportunities in his offices: “Looking for real-world experience in public service? Internship applications are now open for my Washington, D.C. and district offices! Applications for the Washington, D.C. office are open until August 8th. District office applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Learn more” (July 16, 2025).

Vasquez replaced former Congress member Yvette Herrell in January 2023 after winning election to represent New Mexico’s largely rural and agricultural Second District. Born in El Paso in 1984 and residing in Las Cruces, Vasquez graduated from New Mexico State University with a BA in 2008.
