Rep. Gabe Vasquez, U.S. Congressman for New Mexico’s 2nd district, recently posted a series of updates on his official Twitter account, including comments on local travel, emergency relief efforts in Vado, and a message of condolence following a tragic incident at the University of New Mexico.

On July 24, Vasquez announced his return to the state by sharing: “I’m headed home to New Mexico — follow along for road trip updates! https://t.co/7xPtDDr5B1”.

The following day, he acknowledged state action in response to flooding in Vado. On July 25, Vasquez stated: “Happy to see that Gov. Lujan Grisham has signed an emergency declaration that will provide $750,000 in much-needed state funds for Vado’s flood recovery efforts. This is an important step for our community.”

On July 26, Vasquez addressed recent violence affecting the University of New Mexico community. He wrote: “My thoughts and prayers are with our entire UNM community and the loved ones of the boy who lost his life yesterday. He was just a kid, and our kids deserve better than senseless gun violence.”

Vasquez has represented New Mexico’s 2nd district in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Yvette Herrell. Born in El Paso, Texas in 1984 and now residing in Las Cruces, Vasquez graduated from New Mexico State University with a BA in 2008.
