Rep. John Block, a Republican member of the New Mexico State House representing the 51st district since 2023, has recently made several statements on social media regarding partisan redistricting and traffic law enforcement.
On August 3, 2025, Block commented on gerrymandering practices by both political parties, stating: “Dems when they gerrymander the most ridiculously partisan and racist maps: ‘This is fine’ Dems when Texas decides to draw their own maps that aren’t racist: ‘AtTaCk On DeMoCrAcY’ “.
The following day, August 4, Block addressed traffic law violations in another post: “I am seriously considering sponsoring legislation to make not using your turn signal and disobeying traffic laws a felony. This madness has to stop, and it has to stop now! Learn how to drive.”
Later that same day, he voiced support for Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s actions against what he described as leftist influence in politics. Block wrote: “Good for Gov. Abbott and all others who have had enough of the leftists running roughshod over us ALL THE TIME but the weakling GOP of the past being continually scared of their own shadows. The Radical Left isn’t used to us calling their bluffs or playing by their own rules.”
Block was elected to represent New Mexico’s 51st House district in 2023 after succeeding Rachel Black. He is known for his outspoken positions on state and national issues.
