Sonoma Elementary School celebrated its 20th anniversary on April 23, bringing together students, staff, alumni, and community members for a day of festivities. The event featured a morning reception for former students and educators, guided campus tours led by Student Council members, and an evening community party with music and games.
The celebration aimed to honor the school’s history while engaging both current and past members of the Sonoma community. Principal Karin Hite welcomed attendees at the opening program before video messages from former educators, school leaders, and alumni were shown. Guests explored highlights such as the school garden, student artwork in hallways, and historical photos documenting two decades of key events.
Since opening in 2006, Sonoma Elementary has focused on its mission: “Going above and beyond for every student, every day, and unlocking the magic, creativity, and talents of the whole child.” A notable feature is its House System introduced in February 2020. Inspired by the Harry Potter series concept of houses, it divides students into six color-coded groups to foster smaller communities within the school. Each student is randomly assigned to a house to encourage collaboration across grade levels.
