New Mexico State University Global Campus is set to offer a new microlearning course, Youth on the Move, aimed at secondary physical education teachers beginning in August. The course, designed to revolutionize teaching methods, will start on August 7 and focus on innovative, student-centered teaching strategies.

Kim Oliver, NMSU professor of physical education pedagogy, expressed, “This course is an opportunity for educators to transform their approach to physical education.” Jackie Beth Shilcutt, another NMSU professor involved in creating the course, added, “We are committed to helping teachers inspire a lifelong engagement with physical activity among their students."

The course, developed by Oliver and Shilcutt, will be a synchronous online program accommodating up to 15 participants to ensure personalized and interactive learning. Andrew Sedillo, the director of microcredentials instructional design at NMSU Global Campus, highlighted the benefits of microlearning, stating, “Microlearning is an ideal approach for professional development because it allows for intense focus on specific areas of a subject without overwhelming the learners.”

Participants in the Youth on the Move course will receive a digital badge upon completion, recognizing their newly acquired skills. The course consists of 10 online synchronous sessions, scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays through December 4. Early bird pricing is available until May 1, with a cost of $1,299, increasing to $1,499 until July 1.

To enroll in the course, interested individuals can visit the NMSU Global Campus website. For more information, visit the microlearning section of the NMSU Global Campus site.
