The New Mexico State University (NMSU) community and residents of Las Cruces will have the opportunity to meet Valerio Ferme, the incoming president of NMSU, at a public reception next week. The event is scheduled for December 5 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the University Art Museum located at 1308 E. University Avenue. Refreshments will be provided, and parking will be available near the museum, Kent Hall, and the NMSU Bookstore.

"We are excited to host this opportunity for our community members to meet Dr. Ferme," stated NMSU Regent Chair Ammu Devasthali. "We are sure that under his leadership, NMSU will continue to be a positive community partner and make great achievements by working together."

Ferme began his employment with NMSU on November 18 and is set to take on the role of university president starting January 1, 2025. In preparation for his new position, he is currently engaging with stakeholders across various university campuses, agricultural science centers, cooperative extension offices, and other locations throughout New Mexico. During this transition period, Mónica Torres will remain as interim president until the end of 2024.

Before joining NMSU, Ferme was the executive vice president for Academic Affairs and Provost at the University of Cincinnati. There he focused on enhancing student success through various access and retention initiatives.

For further details about the reception event, interested parties can contact the NMSU President’s Office at 575-646-2035.
