Terry Vielma joined the Doña Ana Sheriff’s Office on October 7, 2002, as a court security & transport officer. She was hired as a full-time, permanent employee in December of 2007, where she continues to serve, assisting the public and the court staff in a consistently professional fashion.
Her primary focus is the well-being of the judges, court employees and the public. In her post, she also ensures the security of inmates and logs in hundreds of miles a week while transporting detainees for court appearances from Doña Ana County to other locations. Keeping others well-informed is Terry’s strength. She takes pride in her ability to communicate well with the public and inmates.
Her supervisor, Sgt. John Signore said, “Terry is very knowledgeable about the Judicial Services front-line operations and the Transport Division. Among her colleagues, she is known for being a caring person who promotes a positive environment with co-workers, as well as with the public, each and every day. She considers co-workers her “second family,” with whom she enjoys sharing a wide variety of home-made desserts.”
Terry is proud of being able to help people and putting a smile on their faces, especially when it takes just a brief, friendly greeting such as “good morning” or “have a nice day.”
When away from work, she makes paracord ribbon key chains with her grandson. She recently made some “Back the Blue” key chains and gave them to some of the deputies. She also plays softball and participated in the Senior Olympics Softball Tournament a few weeks ago, fulfilling one of her dreams of going to the Olympics.
Please join us in congratulating Terry on her work anniversary and thanking her for 20 years of caring, dedicated service to the residents of Doña Ana County and the DASO family.
