Huiping Cao, a professor in the Department of Computer Science at New Mexico State University, has been making significant contributions to the academic community since joining in 2010. With a focus on data mining, applied machine learning, and data engineering, Cao's dedication to teaching, research, and student mentorship shines through.

"I take immense pride in the accomplishments of the students I have guided through their academic journeys," expressed Cao, reflecting on her role in nurturing the growth of four Ph.D. candidates she successfully graduated.

Cao's passion for science traces back to her childhood in the Shandong Province, China, where she dreamt of becoming a scientist. "As I gained a deeper understanding of the world, I honed my career goals to engage in research and education," she shared, highlighting her journey to fulfill her aspirations at NMSU's Department of Computer Science.

Having earned her Ph.D. at the University of Hong Kong and completing a post-doctoral position at Arizona State University, Cao's expertise led her to be the first recipient of the Hue and Pat McCoy Endowed Professorship in the Department of Computer Science at NMSU.

"I find great fulfillment in the academic freedom afforded to us to pursue scientific inquiry," Cao expressed, emphasizing the value she places on research and the connections she builds with her students. She added, "The heartfelt emails I receive from former students, expressing gratitude for my support, long after their graduation, serve as invaluable reminders of the impact I have made."

In her role at NMSU, Cao continues to inspire and guide students, balancing her passion for research and education within a supportive academic environment that values both aspects.
