The Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education will meet in regular session on Tuesday, June 18, starting at 6 p.m. Three key items related to transportation and school safety are included on the agenda in preparation for the upcoming school year.

The board will hear a presentation about back-to-school transportation preparations and may take action on a bus contract for the 2024-2025 school year. LCPS currently contracts with STS of New Mexico.

Additionally, the board will review a report on incidents of weapons found on school campuses and discuss the results of a recent Climate and Culture survey that parents participated in. These discussions precede an update from the superintendent on the Evolv weapons detection system. Last semester, families had the opportunity to see this system in person and provide feedback.

The agenda also includes a discussion and possible approval of the School Resource Officer (SRO) agreement between LCPS, the Town of Mesilla, and the City of Las Cruces.

“The work of the school board continues through summer break,” said LCPS Board President Teresa Tenorio. “These agenda items happen to be in preparation for the upcoming school year, and because they are of particular public interest, we wanted to ensure that parents, employees, and community stakeholders were aware of this important board business and that they had the opportunity to provide their own input.”

The full agenda for the meeting and additional packet materials will be posted by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 14. Parents and community stakeholders are invited to attend and provide public comment or send feedback via email to input@lcps.net.

Board meetings are held at the Dr. Karen M. Trujillo Administration Complex at 505 S. Main Street. Meetings are livestreamed with over 120 available languages, including Spanish translation provided by LCPS's Bilingual Education, Translation & Interpretation, and Community Outreach (BETICO) department.
