New Mexico State University, in collaboration with Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education, is set to host a series of presentations and tours focused on weed management. The events are scheduled for Thursday, December 12, from 1 to 5 p.m., and Friday, December 13, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Fabian Garcia Research Center in Las Cruces.
The sessions aim to provide education on managing rangeland and agricultural weeds. Key topics include identifying noxious and invasive weeds, mastering rangeland weed strategies, drone demonstrations for weed management, urban weed control techniques, and integrated strategies using new technologies for agricultural fields.
Israel Joukhadar, a senior research scientist involved in organizing the event, emphasized the potential benefits of these presentations. "The impact of this event includes increased awareness and understanding of effective rangeland and agricultural weed management practices among participants," he stated. Joukhadar highlighted that the inclusion of interactive elements like tours and drone demonstrations would offer attendees practical insights into sustainable weed management strategies.
Participation in the event is free and open to the public. Interested individuals can register or seek more information by contacting Israel Joukhadar via email at icalsoya@nmsu.edu.
Joukhadar expressed optimism about the outcomes of these sessions: "By incorporating interactive elements like tours and drone demonstrations, attendees can gain hands-on experience and practical insights. This can lead to better implementation of sustainable weed management strategies, improved land productivity and enhanced environmental stewardship in their own operations." He also noted that advanced technologies such as drones might inspire innovation in field practices.
