The Las Cruces Public Schools (LCPS) Finance Division has received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Budget Award, marking a first in the district's history. This achievement highlights the division's dedication to financial excellence and transparency in public fund management. The GFOA website lists winners under "Winners with a fiscal year beginning in 2024."

Established in 1906, the GFOA represents over 20,000 public finance officials across the United States and Canada. Its mission is to promote excellence in public finance, involving members in planning, financing, and implementing government operations at all levels. The GFOA Budget Award is recognized nationwide as a top honor in governmental budgeting.

The award evaluates budgets based on their adherence to nationally recognized guidelines: providing a policy document for financial and operational priorities, acting as a financial plan for resource allocation, serving as a communication tool for transparency among stakeholders, and demonstrating accountability and efficient management.

This recognition reflects LCPS Finance Division's high standards and assures the community of alignment with best practices. Superintendent Ignacio Ruiz stated, “Receiving this award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our Finance Division.” He added that it underscores their commitment to financial accountability and service to the community.

Deputy Superintendent and Chief Financial Officer Chenyu “Alex” Liu emphasized transparency by offering opportunities for stakeholders to engage with how funds are budgeted and spent. A community survey available until January 31 allows feedback on spending priorities.
