Las Cruces police are set to host a Town Hall Meeting on January 23, aimed at discussing necessary changes to ensure public safety within the community. The event will take place at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at Las Cruces City Hall and is expected to last about two hours.
LCPD Chief Jeremy Story emphasized the urgency of addressing issues such as crime, untreated mental illness, and addiction ahead of the upcoming legislative session. "The legislative session is about to start, and there is hope that meaningful change can happen with our community’s help," said Chief Story. "Waiting won’t work. It’s time to address crime, untreated mental illness and addiction."
During the meeting, Chief Story will present crime statistics from 2024 and discuss how factors like competency, pre-trial detention, and lack of accountability have contributed to challenges in Las Cruces.
Residents attending the meeting will have an opportunity to engage with LCPD officials, ask questions, and provide feedback on efforts to promote a safer community. The police department encourages both residents and business owners to participate.
For those unable to attend in person, the meeting will be broadcast live on CLCTV via Comcast Cable channels 20-SD and 928-HD. Additionally, it will be available for streaming on the City’s YouTube channel and the Las Cruces Police Department’s Facebook page.
