The City of Las Cruces is taking steps to ensure the safety and comfort of its residents as temperatures drop. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory starting Tuesday, January 7, and continuing through Friday, January 10, 2025. Snowfall is expected in south-central and southwest New Mexico, as well as southwest Texas, with wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph.
In response to the advisory, the city will activate warming stations on Tuesday, January 7. These facilities are open to anyone seeking warmth and shelter during this cold spell. The following locations have been designated as warming stations:
- Frank O’Brien Papen Center at 304 Bell Avenue will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Meerscheidt Recreation Center at 1600 E. Hadley Avenue will operate from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
- Thomas Branigan Memorial Library at 200 E. Picacho Avenue will be available from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday; from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday; and from 1 – 5 p.m., Sunday.
- Munson Senior Center at 975 S. Mesquite Street will welcome visitors from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Sage Café at 6121 Reynolds Drive will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Benavidez Center at1045 McClure Road will operate between the hours of9 a.m.to2p.monMondaythroughFriday.
City staff members are prepared for anyone who seeks refuge from the cold weather conditions.
