Firefighters respond to commercial building blaze on Avenida de Mesilla

A fire occurred at a commercial building on Avenida de Mesilla early Friday morning. At 5:30 a.m. on January 3, Las Cruces firefighters responded to the incident at 675 Avenida de Mesilla. Upon arrival, they encountered heavy fire emanating from the structure.

The firefighting teams managed to extinguish the blaze within minutes, preventing it from spreading throughout the building. No injuries were reported among civilians or firefighters. The cause of the fire and the extent of damage remain undetermined.

The City of Las Cruces offers various community programs and events, including a tuition-free Citizens Police Academy designed to introduce residents to local law enforcement operations. Additionally, plans are underway to revitalize neighborhoods around El Paseo and S Solano corridors. Residents can also participate in workforce development programs aimed at enhancing career opportunities.

Upcoming events include an Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony scheduled for December 7, 2024, at Plaza de Las Cruces and a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Keep Las Cruces Beautiful program inside the Triviz/I-25 tunnel.
