Las Cruces libraries launch Latino poetry discussion series

Las Cruces Public Libraries will host a series of poetry discussions and crafting sessions titled "Palabras y Artesanias" or "Words and Crafts." The first session, themed "Ancestry and Identity," is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library located at 200 E. Picacho Avenue.

Participants must register for each session individually, with registration currently open. The series is funded by the Latino Poetry – Places We Call Home grant, aiming to encourage nationwide dialogue through an innovative new poetry anthology.

The anthology is organized into eight thematic sessions:

- Ancestry and Identity: Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025

- Language: Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025

- Voice and Resistance: Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025

- First and Second Homes: Tuesday, Mar. 4, 2025

- Family and Community: Tuesday, Mar. 18, 2025

- Music and Performance: Tuesday, Apr. 8, 2025

- Labor: Tuesday, Apr. 15, 2025

- Earth and Myth: Tuesday, Apr. 22, 2025
