The City of Las Cruces has announced an increase in the minimum wage, effective January 1, 2025. The new rate will rise from $12.36 to $12.65 per hour. Tipped employees will see their hourly wage increase from $4.95 to $5.06.

This change is part of a policy established by ordinance 2726 in 2014, which set a framework for minimum and tipped wages and their annual adjustments in Las Cruces. From 2015 to 2019, the wages were fixed amounts, but since 2020, they have been adjusted based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

The New Mexico Minimum Wage Act came into effect on January 1, 2020. Each September, Las Cruces calculates its minimum and tipped wages according to city ordinance and compares them with state-set figures, adopting whichever is higher.

In recent years, the state’s minimum wage was higher than that of Las Cruces from 2021 to 2023; hence it was adopted by the city during those years. However, in both 2024 and again for the upcoming year of 2025, Las Cruces’ calculated rates exceeded those set by the state.

For historical context:

- In 2020, the city's minimum wage was $10.25 with a tipped wage of $4.10.

- In subsequent years up through 2023, these rates increased annually.

- By 2024, they had reached $12.36 for regular workers and $4.95 for tipped employees.

- As of January next year (2025), these will be further increased to $12.65 and $5.06 respectively.
