Las Cruces has initiated a project to inspect all fire hydrants within the city. The inspections, carried out by Hydromax USA, began this week and are expected to continue from Monday through Friday for the next five to six months.

These annual inspections play a crucial role in maintaining the Las Cruces Fire Department’s Insurance Services Office (ISO) score. This score can influence insurance costs for both homeowners and businesses. Currently, Las Cruces holds an ISO Class 1 rating, which is the highest possible rating a community can achieve. This rating allows property owners within city limits to benefit from lower insurance rates.

Las Cruces was the first community in New Mexico to earn an ISO Class 1 designation and has maintained this status since 2015. The city is responsible for 5,110 fire hydrants that will undergo inspection during this period.

During the flushing of fire hydrants, there may be instances where tap water appears dirty or discolored. However, running the water for a short time should clear up any discoloration.

The City of Las Cruces continues its efforts in various community projects and initiatives alongside these inspections.
