NSF awards $6 million grant to NMSU for climate change research
New Mexico State University has received a four-year, $6 million grant from the National Science Foundation through the Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR). This funding is part of 14 projects worth $77.8 million aimed at building research and development capacity and strengthening STEM education opportunities in often underfunded states.

Graduate student Lauretta King began her journey at New Mexico State University (NMSU) in spring 2022 by securing a job in the Black Programs office as an administrative assistant. The Amy Goldman-Fowler Teaching Garden, part of New Mexico State University’s Chile Pepper Institute, is now open for self-guided tours. The quarter-acre garden, located at NMSU’s Fabián García Science Center in Las Cruces, 113 W. University Ave., welcomes visitors from sunrise to sunset seven days a week throughout the chile-growing season. It features 140 different varieties of chile peppers that showcase various culinary uses in New Mexico and globally.

Jessica Eck discovered her career path after attending the New Mexico Youth Ranch Management Camp in 2012. Reflecting on her experience, she stated, "When I went to ranch camp, I discovered range. I just loved it. I loved learning about all the grasses, learning about the ecosystems." Eck graduated from New Mexico State University (NMSU) in 2016.

Field day in Corona to highlight student livestock technology
Taylor Andrews counts herself among the fortunate individuals who get to conduct unique research at New Mexico State University’s Corona Range and Livestock Research Center. Andrews, a doctoral student majoring in animal science at NMSU, has worked as a graduate assistant in Corona for three years. She has completed three dissertation projects at the center, located eight miles east of Corona, where she has found a second home.
