Doña Ana County Has Removed 13,660 Pounds of Illegal Dumping Since July 1, 2022! Illegal dumping is not only against the law, but it makes our neighborhoods look bad.
The effects of illegal dumping on the environment and communities can include:

* polluting soil and drinking water,

* harm to wildlife,

* health problems,

* decreasing property values,

* fire hazards,

* hazardous methane gas from decomposing household trash.

It is also illegal to dump yard waste into communities, deserts, and arroyos. A fine of up to $1,000 may be assessed against any person who illegally disposes of garbage on public or private property.

A fine of up to $5,000 may be assessed against any person who illegally disposes of hazardous materials or waste. Household hazardous waste up to 5 gallons can be recycled at a local County Collection Center. The South Central Solid Waste Authority website has more information about hazardous waste and a complete list of County Collection Center hours and locations at www.scswa.net.
