The City of Las Cruces is collaborating with the Spay Neuter Action Program of New Mexico to provide free vouchers for spay or neuter surgeries, rabies vaccinations, and microchipping for eligible dog and cat owners. Sponsored by SNAP New Mexico, the program's eligibility is determined by household income.

Pet owners interested in checking their eligibility for these free vouchers are encouraged to contact SNAP from Tuesday to Friday between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at (575) 524-9265.

SNAP New Mexico emphasizes the importance of spaying and neutering pets. "In just one year, an unspayed female cat can give birth to 12 or more kittens and an unspayed female dog can give birth to 12 or more puppies. Within just a few years, fertile dogs and cats can produce multiple litters," a representative stated. This often results in many offspring ending up in animal shelters or abandoned in unsafe areas.

Additional information about the voucher program is available on SNAP New Mexico’s website.
