Arrowhead Center at New Mexico State University is making strides in driving energy funding in New Mexico through its NM FAST program. The program, which supports regional technology-focused startups in securing research and development funding, has been instrumental in aiding businesses in accessing federal investment opportunities.
Dana Catron, deputy director of Arrowhead Center and director of the NM Clean Energy Resilience and Growth Cluster, highlighted the significance of New Mexico's energy technology ecosystem, stating, “New Mexico’s energy tech ecosystem stands on a strong foundation of innovation and sustainability, driving the transition towards a greener future.”
One of the program's key clients, Aperi CMC, has leveraged the support of NM FAST to secure funding and establish essential networks. Megan Ford, founder of Aperi CMC, expressed gratitude for the program's assistance, emphasizing, “NM FAST has been critical to the early success of Aperi.”
Aperi CMC, an engineering consulting firm, aims to make state-of-the-art modeling and simulation technology more accessible to small companies. With NM FAST's support, Aperi secured funds for a specialized simulation library, enabling the company to reduce simulation time and costs while democratizing simulation technology for underprivileged businesses.
In 2024 alone, NM FAST has facilitated clients in securing over $3.1 million in Department of Energy awards, showcasing the program's dedication to fostering innovation and empowering small businesses. The program offers tailored services such as solicitation matching, proposal development, and financial support to meet the diverse needs of startups in New Mexico.
Looking ahead, NM FAST will launch its SBIR 101 Accelerator to introduce startups to funding avenues and support mechanisms available through SBIR/STTR programs. The program's commitment to nurturing the technology ecosystem in New Mexico remains unwavering, with a focus on providing ongoing support to drive progress and innovation in the region.
