SkillsUSA state champions announced for Mayfield and Centennial high schools

Las Cruces Public Schools congratulates the SkillsUSA State Winners. Students from Centennial, Las Cruces High, and Mayfield competed in events testing their technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and professionalism. Competitions involved tasks such as building projects, written exams, job interviews, and leadership demonstrations.

The SkillsUSA competition covers a wide range of career-specific and leadership contests where students demonstrate their skills in various technical and vocational fields. First-place winners have advanced to national competitions, where they will represent New Mexico and compete against students from across the country. This year’s state winners include:

Centennial High School:

- Technical Drafting: Carter Talley

- Computer Programming: Ishan Bhakta

- Technical Computer Applications: Mateo Garay

- Television Video Production: Paul Ritter and LuRay Lerdal

- Video News Production: Layla Garcia, Jaylen Terrazas, Jadzia Murphy, and Staci Melendrez

- Advisors: Ethan Henry, Hunter Christmas

Mayfield High School:

- Photography: Dante Chip

- Career Pathways Showcase (Arts, A/V, Communications): Mia Sanchez, Emma Montero, Tony Martinez

- Advisors: Keith Roberts, Mary Rios
