The LCPS Bilingual Community Outreach Program has been honored with the NMSBA Excellence in Student Achievement Award. The program's team, including Dr. Aine Garcia-Post, Ben Serrano, Martha Jasmine Granillo Saucedo, Cynthia Parmelee, and Karina Herrera, was recognized for their contributions to providing social supports, enrichment opportunities, and intervention services to students and their families.
Ed Frank, a member of the LCPS Board of Education, highlighted the team's efforts: “Dr. Aine Garcia-Post, Ben Serrano, Martha Jasmine Granillo Saucedo, Cynthia Parmelee, and Karina Herrera — these incredible people provide social supports, enrichment opportunities, and intervention services to students and their families in our community.”
Frank elaborated on one of the key initiatives under the program: “Some of the services they provide are the Empowered Parent’s Academy (EPA), which provides LCPS parents, families and community members with adult education programs. Programs such as learning a second or third language, working toward a GED or learning about technology."
He emphasized the broader impact of empowering parents through education: "When parents are empowered, they can better help their children be successful. A community is only as strong as its most vulnerable members are; and the Bilingual Community Outreach Program promotes a connected and thriving community for everyone."
Frank concluded his remarks by expressing gratitude: "Thank you so much,” added Frank.
