New Mexico State University’s Family Engagement will host Family and Friends Weekend from Friday, Nov. 8 through Sunday, Nov. 10. The event coincides with NMSU’s Homecoming and includes activities to strengthen bonds between families, friends, and students.

Registration for the event is free, though some activities may have additional costs. Interested participants can register at https://families.nmsu.edu/events/family-weekend-2024.html.

“Family Weekend is a chance for families and friends of our students to come to campus to enjoy time either bonding with their student or sometimes just bonding with each other,” said Kirsten Holles, Family Engagement senior coordinator.

The weekend will begin with a “choose your own campus adventure” where families can explore campus museums, play yard games, and shop at the Chili Pepper Institute. On Nov. 8, there will be a Karaoke and Dinner event followed by a guided observation of astronomical objects.

On Nov. 9, Pastries and Parade will precede the Homecoming Parade. The day will continue with a scavenger hunt, cornhole competition, Ag Day activities, and conclude with NMSU’s Homecoming football game against Western Kentucky.

The final day on Nov. 10 offers an optional hike on La Cueva Trail followed by brunch at Toas Dining Hall with their student.

“It’s a good way for students to connect their family to their experiences,” Holles added.

Additionally, on Tuesday, Oct. 15, Family Engagement will partner with Taos Dining Hall to share a dinner recipe that families can prepare at home while their students dine at Taos Dining Hall that afternoon. Aggie Family Dinner recipes will be posted on Oct. 1 on NMSU’s Family Engagement website.
