Las Cruces Public Libraries is organizing a series of events titled "Palabras y Artesanias" (Words and Crafts) that will focus on Latino poetry and crafting. The next session, themed "Voice and Resistance," is scheduled for February 18, 2025, at 4 p.m. in the Boardroom of the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library located at 200 E. Picacho Avenue.

The event will explore the significant role Latino poets have played in political struggles through their tradition of protest and critique. Participants will also engage in crafting pulseras, which are knotted bracelets adorned with colors, symbols, and words to convey beliefs or messages.

This initiative is part of "Latino Poetry: Places We Call Home," a public humanities project directed by Library of America. It receives support from the National Endowment for the Humanities and Emerson Collective.

Additional sessions are planned for select Tuesdays at 4 p.m. through April 2025 at the same venue. Themes include First and Second Homes, Family and Community, Music and Performance, Labor, Earth and Myth.

Registration is required for each session. Interested individuals can contact Mindy Del Campo, Librarian, at (575) 528-4024 or via email at [email protected].

Alternative formats of this document are available by calling (575) 528-4102/TTY 711. Those requiring disability accommodations should call the library at least 48 hours before the event.
