Several beautification projects in Las Cruces were discussed on January 27, 2025, during a Tax Increment District (TIDD) board meeting and City Council work session. The meetings took place at the City Hall's Council Chambers.

The City Council, which also functions as the TIDD board, received updates on district finances and projects. By December 2024, over $3 million had been collected in TIDD funds for FY25, raising the total balance to more than $23 million.

Current initiatives using TIDD funds include plans for leveling the floor at Branigan Memorial Library to enhance service and accessibility. Renovations at Branigan Cultural Center are set to finish by March. Shade structures will be added downtown along Main Street this summer.

During the work session, councilors reviewed a survey assessing senior services in Las Cruces. Nearly 700 responses from seniors highlighted awareness of meal programs and transportation but showed low usage of other services. Recommendations included increasing awareness of lesser-used programs and expanding recreational activities.

Updates were provided on Metropolitan Redevelopment Area (MRA) designations aimed at addressing blight and boosting economic activity in key areas like El Paseo Road & South Solano Drive.

A quarterly update on 2022 GO Bond Projects was also presented. Construction of Fire Station #9 is underway with a completion target of February 2026. Park improvements are planned for La Llorona and Tellbrook Parks by late 2025.

The East Mesa Public Recreation Complex will feature an inclusive playground with construction starting in May. Affordable housing projects include Three Sisters Apartment complex nearing completion and Pedrena Senior Apartments progressing steadily.

"The City's Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization Administrator, Natalie Green," mentioned that expansion of the revolving loan fund is being considered after successfully funding three single-family houses through a pilot program.

Meetings can be viewed on the City's YouTube Channel. The next regular meeting is scheduled for February 4, 2025.
