Las Cruces police are investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred on Tuesday near the intersection of Seventeenth Street and Picacho Avenue. Police were dispatched shortly before noon on February 4, 2025, to respond to a report of an altercation resulting in a stabbing on north Seventeenth Street, just south of Picacho Avenue. First responders found a 26-year-old man suffering from at least one stab wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The assailant fled from the area on foot. Investigators are working to identify the suspect, locate him, and determine what led to the altercation. Police have requested that anyone with information about this incident call them at (575) 526-0795.
A portion of the intersection where the incident occurred is temporarily closed to traffic while police gather evidence and map the scene. Commuters are encouraged to find alternate routes around the intersection.
