As Mayfield High School's girls' basketball coach approaches a significant career milestone, the Trojan community is extending an invitation to the Las Cruces community to join in the celebration.

The Trojans have scheduled a special event on Thursday, February 6 at 7 p.m. at Mayfield High School for Pink Night and First New Mexico Bank Night. This event follows a recent donation from First New Mexico Bank, approved by the Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education, which will fund a new video board for the MHS gymnasium.

This evening could also mark a career highlight for MHS girls' basketball coach George Maya, who is nearing his 600th career victory. After defeating Alamogordo on January 27, he has achieved 597 wins. Coach Maya has been with MHS for over three decades and was recognized as a New Mexico Hall of Fame Coach by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association. In 2019, he was named Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations.

"We are planning a spectacular celebration on ‘Pink Night’, and we hope Las Cruces comes out to join in on the fun," said Eric Fraass, MHS Principal. "We would also like to extend a big Trojan thank-you to First New Mexico Bank for the amazing donation of the new video board. We are grateful for community leaders like First New Mexico Bank, Las Cruces who see that our students are the future."

Senior Night at Mayfield is set for February 20, 2025, to honor graduating seniors. On this night, there will also be an announcement about upcoming events that community members and Trojan fans will not want to miss.

"The staff and administrators at Mayfield High School are working hard to continue to do great things for the students and athletes and we invite everyone to join in on honoring the students and coaches," Fraass added.
