Students in Las Cruces Public Schools will receive letters on January 27, indicating their assigned school for the 2025-2026 academic year. The assignments result from redistricting changes approved by the LCPS Board of Education on December 17, 2024. Not all students will be affected by these changes.

The letters specify the school each student will be enrolled in for the next year. Some students may qualify for exemptions based on criteria set by the LCPS Board of Education. These criteria include students entering specific grades (5th, 8th, 11th, or 12th), those participating in athletics or arts competitions during the 2024-25 school year, and those currently attending schools with siblings meeting exemption criteria.

Additionally, students enrolled in magnet programs or dual language programs not available at their zoned schools may also qualify for exemptions. Schools offering dual language programs include Alameda, Booker T. Washington, Central, Cesar Chavez, Columbia, Conlee, Doña Ana, E. Picacho, Fairacres (K), Hermosa Heights, Highland, Jornada, Loma Heights, MacArthur, Sonoma, Sunrise, Tombaugh Valley View Mesa Zia Las Cruces. Students attending schools of choice like Arrowhead Park and Mesilla Valley Leadership Academy are also eligible.

Parents can submit transfer requests if their children meet any exemption criteria. The deadline to submit these requests is February 7 at 5 p.m., with a separate form required for each student.

A revised transfer policy was approved by the LCPS Board earlier this month to maintain balanced enrollment across schools. Transfer approvals will be limited and transportation services will not be provided for transferred students. Parents interested in transferring their children out of their zoned schools must apply by February 7 at 5 p.m.

For inquiries regarding transfers or exemptions due to redistricting changes initiated in August 2024, parents can contact a hotline at (575) 525-7121 from Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., or send an email to tlc@lcps.net.
