The sports fields at Hadley Sports Complex, including Harty, Paz, Ron Galla, and Maag, as well as the Apodaca Park softball fields, were closed last week due to safety concerns. This decision followed an incident on March 3, 2025, when a light pole fell at the Maag sports field. No injuries were reported from the incident.
Strong winds are believed to have contributed to the fall of the light pole. To ensure safety, all affected fields will remain closed until further notice. The plan is to remove and replace all light poles before reopening these facilities for regular activities.
Parks and Recreation staff will coordinate with organizations that had scheduled events on these fields. Meanwhile, other sports facilities such as Apodaca Park baseball fields, Burn Lake soccer fields, High Noon fields 1-5, and East Mesa Public Recreation Complex fields continue to be open for use.
Efforts are underway with vendors to address the issue promptly. Updates will be provided by the City as they become available.
