Task force probes officer-involved shooting in Las Cruces

Las Cruces police, in collaboration with the Officer-involved Incident Task Force, are investigating a shooting that injured an armed man on March 13, 2025. The incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. on South Main Street.

Initial reports indicate that police responded to a call about a man armed with a gun. Upon arrival, the first officer encountered the suspect, leading to a brief foot chase. During this pursuit, at least one shot was fired, striking the suspect. The suspect was apprehended on the 800 block of South Main Street where police discovered a firearm near him.

The injured individual was transported to a local hospital, though details regarding his condition remain unknown. It has been confirmed that the Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) officer involved did not sustain any injuries.

Following standard protocol, the officer will be placed on administrative leave as the investigation proceeds. This case is being handled by the Officer-involved Incident Task Force which comprises detectives from several agencies: New Mexico State Police, Las Cruces Police Department, Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State University Police.
