Branigan Cultural Center is inviting proposals for its 2026 exhibits, focusing on themes of cultural and historical significance related to the Borderlands and the U.S. Southwest. The center is particularly interested in submissions that reflect on the 250th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. Submissions will be accepted from April 1 to May 16, 2025.
The center encourages proposals that address both historic and contemporary issues. Suggested themes include those identified by the American Association for State and Local History for the Declaration's anniversary: Unfinished Revolutions, Power of Place, We the People, American Experiment, and Doing History. Detailed information about these themes can be found on the American Association for State and Local History website.
Proposals must be submitted via SurveyMonkey, with a link available on the Las Cruces Museums website starting April 1. Applications should include a brief narrative of the exhibit theme, a statement by the scholar or artist, five to ten images of proposed objects or artwork, and space requirements. Exhibitions usually run for eight to twelve weeks. Incomplete or late submissions will not be considered.
Submissions are welcome from formal and informal scholars, cultural heritage organizations, and solo or group artists. Previous exhibitions have covered topics such as historic theaters in Mesilla Valley and historic photographs from Ballard Photo Studio.
The deadline for submission is at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025. For more information, visit the Museums website or contact Jennifer McClung, Exhibit Curator.
The Branigan Cultural Center is located at 501 N. Main St., open Tuesday through Saturday with no admission charge. It is accessible via Roadrunner Transit Route 1 Stop 1.
