The City of Las Cruces has announced the appointment of Richard Hanway as the new Transit Director. Hanway brings nearly three decades of experience in the transportation sector and holds a bachelor's degree in business administration. His career with the City began in 2010 when he joined as a Bus Operator. In 2014, he was promoted to Route Supervisor and quickly advanced to Transit Manager in 2015. He also served temporarily as Interim Fleet Administrator before returning to his role in the Transit department.
Hanway's efforts have been instrumental in securing a substantial grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration. This funding allowed the City to add five electric buses to its fleet in 2024 and six more in 2025.
