Marko Mohlenhoff, the director of the McNair Scholars Program at New Mexico State University (NMSU), is committed to guiding students toward Ph.D. programs. The program, part of the William Conroy Honors College, aims to support students in their academic journey.
Mohlenhoff has a background in various student affairs roles at different institutions, including positions as an outreach coordinator, TRIO Student Support Services director, and student affairs basic needs case manager. As a first-generation college graduate himself, he values witnessing the potential and achievements of NMSU's McNair Scholars.
"The quality of the McNair Scholars continually impresses me," Mohlenhoff stated. "More than just being talented students who have good grades, they show how serious they are about their education here at NMSU. I often tell people, if you need a dose of optimism for the future, look no further than the McNair Scholars; it’s clear these students are going to make the world a better place for all of us."
He encourages first-generation students at NMSU to consider the McNair Scholars Program as a resource to nurture their curiosity and guide them toward future opportunities.
"If you want to go beyond the bachelor’s degree with your education, if you’re a curious person who loves learning and is willing to work hard, then going for the Ph.D. or graduate school may be for you and the McNair program can help you get there," Mohlenhoff said.
