The Parks & Recreation and Public Works Departments of Las Cruces are collaborating to address light pole safety issues at the Hadley Sports Complex and Apodaca Softball Fields. The closure of these locations was announced on March 10, 2025, to facilitate safety assessments regarding pole stability.

Following this assessment, it was determined that the Ron Galla field did not require pole removal and will reopen for regular activities on March 31, 2025. At Maag Park, the poles have been removed, and it is also expected to reopen for daytime use on the same date. The ongoing disposal and cleanup work at Paz and Harty fields is slated to conclude soon, allowing them to open for daytime play in the coming weeks.

As for the Apodaca Softball Fields, no reopening schedule has been provided yet as pole removal only commenced this week. Temporary measures include placing barrels over the spots where poles were removed, and visitors are advised to steer clear of these areas for safety.

Parks & Recreation intends to coordinate with leagues to devise usage schedules for the upcoming months, anticipating intermittent field closures as poles are replaced. The work will be phased to maintain access to the fields safely.

Notably, other sports areas like the Apodaca Park baseball fields, Burn Lake soccer fields, High Noon fields 1-5, Provencio Van Damme fields, and East Mesa Public Recreation Complex fields remain unaffected and continue to be operational.
