New Mexico State University will hold its annual Aggie Remembrance Day on May 1 to honor students, faculty, staff, and alumni who passed away during the academic year. The event, established in 2013, serves as a moment for the community to gather and remember those lost between April 15, 2024, and April 15, 2025. The ceremony, which will include the reading of names, speeches, and bell ringing, is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Corbett Center Student Union third-floor ballrooms.

The event is open to both the NMSU community and the general public. Light refreshments will be served before the ceremony.

"Being a New Mexico State Aggie isn’t just something I’ve done – it’s at the core of who I am. That’s why Aggie Remembrance Day and our memorial hold such deep meaning," said Ann C. Goodman, Dean of Students. "We remember them because we’re family – and family never forgets."

Michelle Grandjean, Associate Director of Student Involvement and Leadership Programs, emphasized the ceremony’s significance, stating, “The Aggie Memorial Ceremony is tradition that holds meaning to all Aggies, as one day all of our names will be read as we are remembered in this ceremony.”

NMSU Foundation CEO Sylvia Y. Acosta highlighted the importance of recognizing the contributions of those being remembered. “There is value for us all in recognizing the impact that our fellow Aggies have had on our campus, our community and our world,” she said.

Attendees are encouraged to RSVP online through the Aggie Remembrance Day webpage. The ceremony will also be streamed virtually via Zoom.

The event coordination is led by the Office of the Dean of Students and Student Involvement and Leadership Programs, with support from the NMSU Foundation. For further information, the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership Programs can be contacted at 575-646-3200.
