On April 14, 2025, Vasquez emphasized the need for immigrant detention facilities to adhere to basic care standards. He stated that he and his colleagues are urging the Department of Homeland Security to "restore its critical oversight functions of detention centers like those in New Mexico".
The following day, April 15, 2025, Vasquez highlighted a case involving a legal U.S. resident, Mr. Abrego Garcia, who was deported without proper due process. The Supreme Court recognized that his deportation was erroneous, and Vasquez asserted that "it can happen to anyone" and advocated for Mr. Garcia's return to the United States.
On April 16, 2025, Vasquez expressed gratitude to attendees of a town hall meeting in Las Cruces. He noted that hearing directly from constituents is essential to his role and said he appreciates the opportunity for "tough questions and genuine conversation about our future".
